Writing is one of the earliest examples of permanent short-term recording. However, the passage of time may  render the language itself obsolete and/or the storage medium somewhat less than permanent.

The current use of online publication allows for almost-instantaneous changes of the data so transmitted and, unfortunately, is equally impermanent. Almost nothing posted online can be verified after the fact because of this potential for alteration and/or removal. Hucksters, politicians and purveyors of sleazy goods love it!
